PVC-U METRIC PIPE SYSTEMS PVC-U (Unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) is one of the most popular thermoplastic materials used for pipe work installations. Light in weight PVC-U has excellent resistance to chemicals and abrasion, is tasteless and odourless making it ideal for use with potable water systems and most food products as its extremely smooth bore gives excellent flow characteristics without sediment.

Metric PVC-U products are generally manufactured in accordance with the following standards:

Pressure ratings for solvent weld fittings are clearly stated alongside each item in this section.
Threaded fittings are rated at 12bar.
All quoted at 20ºC

Pressure ratings for plastic pipework systems are always quoted at 20ºC, it is a fundamental principle of such systems that if the temperature is increased then the pressure rating must be reduced. PVC-U systems should never be used for temperatures in excess of 60ºC.
